purplegreen MDM

purplegreen MDM is being prepared for its first pilot. These pages describe the development release.

Which profile a tablet gets

A tablet takes its kiosk profile from the first of three places that has one:

  1. The tablet itself: a profile chosen for this one tablet (Change profile).
  2. Its site: the profile set on the site page.
  3. The organisation default: the default profile in the settings.

It always runs the profile's active version (staged rollouts to some sites first come later). If none of the three has a profile, the tablet keeps whatever it had and the page warns you.

Where you see it

The device page, the site page and the settings page show this chain: each layer, which one wins, and why. Change a layer and the tablets it affects get the new policy right after the next policy update (usually within seconds), not only at the 15-minute check.

Site Wi-Fi and profile Wi-Fi

A profile can carry Wi-Fi networks for every site; a site can add its own. When a site network has the same name (SSID) as a profile network, the site network wins for that site's tablets. The site page shows the Wi-Fi the tablets actually get, where each network comes from, and a warning when a site network replaces a profile network.

Before you archive a profile

The profile page has a Used by panel: the organisation default, the sites and the tablets that point at the profile directly. A profile that is still in use cannot be archived; the dialog lists what uses it so you can move those first.
