purplegreen MDM is being prepared for its first pilot. These pages describe the development release.
Private apps: the package name is permanent
The App catalog shows this warning when you add an app (see Apps and managed configurations).
A private app is uploaded to managed Google Play for your organisation only. Google
binds its package name (for example com.example.checkin) to the enterprise it was
first uploaded to, permanently. An enterprise also cannot move between EMMs.
What this means for you:
- Upload your production app first in the enterprise that will run production (the one connected to purplegreen-mdm), never in a test enterprise or another EMM's enterprise.
- Test builds must use a different package name than the production app.
- If one app should serve several organisations, publish it as a public (optionally unlisted) app on Google Play instead; public apps have no such binding.
